Salt Dough Diva Lamps

Year 2 have  been making salt dough recently by mixing salt, flour and water together and then kneading it into a firm dough. Once the dough was made the children had a go at modelling it into Diva Lamps as part of their learning about Diwali, the Festival of Light.

A Diva Lamp is an oil lamp that is used in India and Nepal and are often used as temporary lighting for special occasions such as Diwali. The lamps are placed around the home and in gardens to invite in the Goddess of Wealth, Lakshmi. The pupils loved getting involved in the process and learning all about what the lamps are used for during the Festival.
