Learning and Teaching at Infants

For pupils in Years 1 and 2 the curriculum allows the pupils to develop their thinking skills and abilities across a broad range of subjects and topics including Science, History, Geography, French, ICT, Art, Drama, Music, RE, Personal and Social Education, and Physical Education.

Reading, spelling, numeracy skills and handwriting form the essential core of the teaching the children experience and this is enhanced through History, Geography, Science and exposure to other individual specialist subjects.

The core teaching is undertaken by our experienced Class Teachers, with specialists delivering French, Drama, ICT, Music and PE. Teaching is increasingly formal with more  regular assessments built in to monitor progress.

Parents are asked to support their daughters in learning weekly spellings and times tables as well as continuing to listen to them read on a daily basis. Progress Checks are sent home to parents at the end of the Autumn and Spring Terms with a full school report at the end of the Summer Term. Parents Evenings are held during the Autumn and Spring Terms.

The day to day welfare of our Infant pupils is managed by their Class Teachers. We encourage our Infant pupils to become more responsible and we support them to develop more organisational skills.
