Year 8 DNA Modelling

Year 8 had a fun lesson in DNA modelling this week. They used a range of sweet treats in order to make the model. Jelly sweets to represent the DNA nucleotide base pairs and strawberry pencils to represent the DNA backbone, the finished results looked quite realistic! Each pupil took their materials and set about writing a secret code in their ‘DNA’. When everyone had finished they put all the ‘genes’ together and worked as a team to unscramble the DNA codes and find the hidden messages. It was a very informative yet interactive class which gave the pupils a firmer understanding of how DNA is structured.
