Year 9 First Aid Training

Year 9 had a very informative and important afternoon learning what do if someone becomes unconscious and stops breathing.

Firstly, they were taught the importance of checking if the person was breathing and positioning them in the recovery position. The pupils were shown how to give mouth to mouth resuscitation and its importance in keeping oxygen flowing to the brain. They then took turns in practicing on a mannequin and realised how physically hard it is to do for any length of time. The final activity was to learn about and use a defibrillator on both adults and children.

The pupils really enjoyed the course and participated in the activities with interest and enthusiasm. They have gained confidence of what to do when faced with someone who is not breathing and learned some valuable and important life skills.
