Pupil Spotlight

This week we are shining the spotlight on Beatrice, in Year 9. Beatrice spoke to us about her work as an Epping Forest Conservation Volunteer.

When did you join Braeside School?

Year 5, 2018

What made you want to do voluntary work?

My love for the environment and the DofE.

How did you find out about volunteering at Epping Forest Conservation?

I asked my mum to help me find a suitable and local voluntary work in the forest. We looked up Epping Forest volunteers on the internet.

How regularly do you volunteer?

I try to volunteer two to three times a month (it is only for that amount of time).

Did you have any training?

They taught me how to use all of the tools – saws and loppers.

What’s involved with what you do?

Forest Management

  • Cut down certain types of young trees to create a greener area by letting the sun through.
  • Pull up brambles and holly to stop them from infesting the forest.
  • Clear out swamps
