UKMT Mathematics Team Challenge

Well done to the Braeside School four pupil team consisting of Year 7 and 8 pupils Alisha, Abi, Ajwaj and Amaarah for taking part in the Regional Final of the prestigious UK Mathematics Trust Team Challenge Competition.

The competition was hosted by Bancroft’s School in Woodford Green on Tuesday 14 March. The girls were accompanied by their Maths teacher Mrs Alahi who supervised and assisted in the administration and marking of another team’s work but was not allowed to help the Braeside girls team.

She commented, ‘A fantastic day was had by all in a competition which promotes mathematical dexterity, teamwork and communication skills.  The girls worked hard in all 4 rounds of the competition completing various mathematical problem solving tasks. They performed admirably in a tough field competing against 27 other schools. The girls worked well as a team tackling very demanding questions where speed, maths and strategy were key to a successful round.’

Just being in a hall full of ambitious young mathematicians where so many discussions about angles, square numbers and fractions were taking place was amazing!

Unfortunately due to the tough competition, the team did not win, however thoroughly enjoyed the day and will be back next year for another fantastic battle against mathematical minds!

The pupils should be very proud of their efforts.
