Gifted and Talented Academic Challenge Day

Both Normanhurst and Braeside Schools got together to send some of our gifted and talented pupils from Year 10 to an Academic Challenge Day at Forest School this term.

Our pupils participated in a range of challenging and enjoyable workshops given by Forest School teachers. These, alongside some guided research time with both teachers and sixth form pupils, were aimed to prepare students for a United Nations style debate which took part in the afternoon.

The Model UN style (MUN) conference event took place and students took on the role of delegates representing a country. Students debated the issue of international migration from the perspective of their given countries. They needed to get inside the mind-set of their given country, not just giving their own opinions. The debates were lively and at times tense. Our students were put on the spot and rose to the challenge showing independence, maturity and fantastic communication skills. Well done to all of them.
