European Day of Languages

On Wednesday 26 September, Braeside marked European Day of Languages with a special assembly. We explored the importance of languages in improving the next generation’s prospects in light of the changes Britain is facing. We presented research from various business, government and academic organisations highlighting the lack of language skills in Britain’s working population and raising concerns over how this could affect the UK’s economy. Pupils were encouraged to reflect on how they can seize opportunities arising out these needs and improve their prospects, by approaching modern foreign language learning as a skill to add to job rather than an abstract subject.
