Year 9 Explore Silent Conversation

Following the Year 9 visit to the synagogue for Holocaust Memorial Day, Year 9 are now exploring a wide range of sources from WW2 Germany and Poland. This week, we focused on the artist Hans Jackson. His work details the impact of The Nuremberg Laws on German and Polish society. Pupils used a technique called ‘silent conversation’ about one of his famous paintings called ‘The Boycott’. Pupils worked collaboratively to analyse the provenance of the source but they weren’t allowed to talk! They had to use silent annotation to address the questions and observations. Year 9 enjoyed this different way of working in a group.
