Year 8 Observe Photosynthesis

Year 8 enjoy practical lessons in Biology and so this year they are trying to observe photosynthesis using an aquatic plant. The beauty of this experiment is that we can see how fast photosynthesis happens in the plant by looking at how fast the oxygen bubbles are released from the stem.

Year 8 worked really well to get their experiments set up so efficiently to be able to observe their bubbles. They also managed to compare the rate of photosynthesis under different conditions. Lauren and Rebecca wanted to prove the gas in the bubbles was actually oxygen so they tested the gas they collected with a glowing splint. Very impressive investigative work from Year 8.
